First lessons with Kelly

Which part of the course are you looking forward to most?

I’m really looking forward to create ideas and watch them come alive on screen. I am also looking forward to doing all the editing, I think that might be fun.

What knowledge and skills do you hope to learn in Media?

I don’t really know what to expect so I’m just excited to learn something different.  I want to know how all the editing works and the process behind all that.

What grade are you realistically hoping to achieve in Media?

Distinction.

What was the last programme of film you watched?

Last night I watched Thor, Love and Thunder. Which wasn’t the best movie.

Why do you think that TV programme or film appealed to an audience?

Well I liked it because of Chris Hemsworth but because the MCU is a massive franchise it ropes all fans in to watch even if the movie isn’t that good.

What technology have you used to access the media in the last 24 hours?

My phone and Tv.

What device do you use most to access the Media?

My phone.

Copycat Production

I missed the first lesson so when I came in the next week they told me that we were doing a copycat scene. They had made a presentation for their pitch of doing the Avengers for a copycat scene.

Here is the presentation we made. It covers the basics like what we were wanting to recreate, which characters were having and where we wanted to film. We also talked about costumes.

Once we showed it to Kelly we started cracking on. I set up a teams chat with Actors, Directors and Makeup Artist.

We then split up jobs Hollie did more of the production work as she is much more efficient than me. She did the shot list and she also got all the scripts for the cast and directors. My job was to get the actors prepared. I sorted out the costume and makeup and props list. The costumes weren't that hard to gather as it was just formal wear. The hardest costume was probably Laura's who was Ultron. Her character was a robot so finding clothing to make her look like a robot was very hard. She wore black leggings, black long sleeve top with her makeup covering her body.

Hollie got the script together and we made copies for everyone and a spare in case any went missing. The only thing I would change is the way the script was wrote. We just copied and pasted it off the internet which was to give us more time but professionally it wasn't great. We later added on Ultron's part which is also on the file. We also gave that script to everyone who needed it.

Hollie did an amazing job with doing the shot list.

The templates is what we gave to the actors and the makeup students to follow. It gives a little description of what we want and a photo is also included for visuals. For some photos of the makeup people go to my Makeup Photodump on my blog. There is a section for the makeup done on the Avengers production. I spoke to the makeup people about the makeup for the Avengers and they said some people could do it themselves because it was quite natural. The people they did makeup for was Tony Stark, Thor, Ultron and Rhodey. Tony Stark had some facial hair done which we had to make ginger because our actor had red hair. He also had a red hand paint done because on one of the shots when he is lifting the hammer he puts his metal armour on the hammer. Rhodey also had the same hand paint on except hers was a blue/silver colour. Thor had some facial hair makeup done. Ultron had a lot more makeup done than the rest of them. She had grey face paint on her face, neck and her hands. It reminded me a bit of Spiderman the way the lines were painted on her face.

Filming Day

We started prepping to film earlier as we knew people had to get makeup done and there was also tutorial in the afternoon. We cleaned up the black room the day before as we knew there was going to be times were we were filming the whole room. We brought in blankets and pillows to make it more home like and then we also had a prop list we followed which is in the same folder as the Avengers Shotlist's . We had a little confusion with the makeup people at the start but everything got smoothed over. We started makeup at about 10 and told everyone else go to get their costumes on. We started filming about 11 and everything was going well. Then lunch came around and we all took a little break. After lunch we picked up filming which didn't last very last because Musical theatre were having their opening show and we were filming pretty close to theatre which meant it would have messed up the audio. Once the show was done we we just filming some solo shots for some people as a lot of the cast were in Tutorial. This did help us a lot with time which we really needed. Once everyone was back we started to film everyone again. It was getting to a point were the actors started to get tired which was at 6pm. When they started stressing out it made me stress a little but which meant I was messing the shot list up because I wanted to get everyone home as fast as I could.  I wished we filmed earlier because we were really on a roll and taking all the breaks really did set us back. We finished filming around 7.30pm which isn't to late. We did still have a few things we needed shooting. If I've learnt anything from today was to let the actors know we could be staying back late. I also need to stay more calm when I'm under pressure.

We did a bit more filming a week after, it was just two shots we needed of Rhodey and Tony. We filmed when it was best for the makeup people because they had to paint the hand on again. It went really well, it was very quick and everyone was in a good mood.
